In-Person and Online Parenting Classes

  Parents, caregivers, and educators are invited to learn practical strategies to address common parenting challenges by attending free, in-person or online workshops and discussion groups hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency. Workshops will offer participants the tools they need to raise happy, confident children and effectively manage misbehavior; a variety of course options are available to accommodate the varied needs of participants.   Workshops and discussion groups will help participants identify their parenting goals, address behavioral problems, and promote healthy child development by using the Triple P Positive Parenting Program , a comprehensive education initiative targeted to parents, healthcare professionals, educators, and caregivers of infants, toddlers, and school-aged children.     A Positive Parenting Course will be held at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Project Self-Sufficiency and offered simultaneously on Zoom, July 10 th , 25 th , 31 st ; ...

Learn How to Travel with Kids at Free Baby Fair

  Project Self-Sufficiency will host a special Baby Beginnings event Friday, June 27 th , 1:00 p.m., to help pregnant women and parents of young children to access the resources they need to be successful.   The event will feature targeted discussions about traveling with children, along with free baby items, prizes and giveaways.   Participants will also learn about free and reduced cost activities for families, early childhood development, positive parenting techniques, nutrition, and other topics related to early childhood health, safety and education. Volunteer Gardeners Needed

  Project Self-Sufficiency is seeking volunteers to assist with planting, maintenance, and harvesting of fruits and vegetables from the community gardens at the agency’s Newton campus.   Volunteers would work alongside seasoned horticultural professionals, Monday – Friday.   Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.   Hours are flexible and no experience is required.   Project Self-Sufficiency’s Newton campus is home to numerous vegetable gardens which bear all kinds of crops for consumption by the agency’s low-income participants.   During the summer, hundreds of potted tomato plants also wreath the sidewalks throughout the 5-acre campus.   Produce is harvested daily and offered to agency participants at Project Self-Sufficiency.   Baskets are also provided for families to cart the bounty home and share with their children.   Participants are given tips on cooking and nutrition along with the food, and the children at the agency’s...
