Newton Rotary Club Donates Bags Packed with Supplies for the Homeless

  Members of the Newton Rotary Club have spent the last few months gathering essential supplies for homeless children, teens, and adults. In November, club members packed 24 backpacks for children and teens and 24 rolling duffel bags for adults with a variety of toiletries, reusable utensils, and non-perishable food.   A caravan of vehicles brought the bags to Project Self-Sufficiency for distribution to those in need.   Rotary member Denise Current spearheaded the project.   “I like to get involved in different things,” explained Current who offered her spacious barn for a Farm-to-Table fundraiser earlier in the year.   Proceeds from the event were matched by a grant from Rotary International and the funds were used to purchase toiletries, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, and body wash, along with pie pans, plastic utensils, can openers, and canned goods.   Bags for adults also contained a $25 Shop Rite gift card.   Bags for children...

Project Self-Sufficiency Receives Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation

  As part of The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program, Project Self-Sufficiency was selected to receive a $1,000 grant. Through this unique program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks partners (employees) to nominate a local organization in their community. This grant award is thanks to a nomination from a local Starbucks partner (employee) who recognized Project Self-Sufficiency’s work on behalf of low-income individuals and families in northwestern New Jersey. Since 2019, more than 10,000 grants have been awarded to local organizations, amounting to more than $15 million.   Funding from The Starbucks Foundation will help support the wide range of services provided by Project Self-Sufficiency, such as high school equivalency education, parenting classes, and assistance with emergency basic needs, like food and clothing.   “We are honored to have been recognized by a local Starbucks employee to receive this grant from The Starbucks Founda...

Acme Stores Raise Funds for Project Self-Sufficiency

  Project Self-Sufficiency has been selected as a charity partner for Acme and will receive donations from its annual Nourishing Neighbors campaign aimed at helping ensure every child has access to a healthy breakfast.     All donations made at Acme stores in Blairstown, Sussex, and Vernon during September will be used to support Project Self-Sufficiency’s Food Project.   Project Self-Sufficiency offers free food and limited personal care products to Sussex and Warren County residents, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     Patrons need not be agency participants.     “Thanks to outstanding community support, The Food Project: Nourishing Our Neighbors at Project Self-Sufficiency has remained open and ready to serve anyone in need since the onset of this public health crisis,” commented Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director at Project Self-Sufficiency.   “We are exceptionally grateful to be the recipient of a third grant from the ‘A...
