Local Business Owner Donate Supplies for the Homeless

  Members of the Newton Rotary Club recently stopped by Project Self-Sufficiency to drop off 24 duffel bags stuffed with gift cards and essential supplies for homeless children and adults.   The non-profit agency which works extensively with the homeless population in Sussex County will distribute the items to those in need.   Each bag contained a variety of items, including blankets, toiletries, socks, gloves, hats, and combs.   Adults also received a can opener and a pie plate to help with food consumption; children received coloring books and school supplies.   Gift cards to local stores will be distributed to families as needed.   The project was one of many spearheaded for the club by Newton Rotarian Denise Current.   Members donated supplies during weekly meetings and funds were donated by the Newton Rotary to cover other expenses associated with the project.   “We have seen that Project Self-Sufficiency is in tune with the needs of ...

New School Supplies Needed

  Project Self-Sufficiency is seeking donations of new school supplies for distribution to hundreds of children during the month of August.   New backpacks, crayons, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, scissors, pens, spiral notebooks, and loose-leaf paper would be deeply appreciated.   Monetary donations to be used towards the purchase of supplies will also be gratefully received at https://www.projectselfsufficiency.org/school-supplies .   Project Self-Sufficiency is located at 127 Mill Street in Newton.   For information about donating school supplies, or to inquire about any of the programs and services available at Project Self-Sufficiency, call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500, or visit www.projectselfsufficiency.org .

Donations Needed for Thanksgiving

  Project Self-Sufficiency is soliciting assistance for hundreds of low-income families who need a little extra help this season, by asking area residents and organizations to donate traditional Thanksgiving food, or to donate funds towards the purchase of food.   The agency will gratefully receive pumpkin or apple pies; canned vegetables, including yams and cranberry sauce; dinner rolls; gravy; stuffing and mashed potato mixes.   Contributions of frozen turkeys will also be greatly appreciated; however, donors are asked to alert the agency ahead of time if frozen turkeys will be donated.   The non-profit agency distributes complete Thanksgiving dinners to hundreds of local families each year.   “We expect to serve nearly 500 families this year, since many families will not be attending traditional gatherings and will therefore be cooking for themselves,” explains Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency.   “Due to the pandem...
