News from Project Self-Sufficiency

Mike Spekhardt, former Sparta Township Mayor and current Sussex County Community College Board of Trustees Member recently visited the preschool to read several books to the children as part of the center’s Celebrity Reader program. “As a brand-new Grandpa, it was great fun to read to the kids at Little Sprouts,” remarked Spekhardt.   “The three and four-year-old’s had lots of good questions about the story.   Moreover, I was proud to witness the work of Project Self Sufficiency and the impact made to our community.   The way that PSS supports and guides our residents through challenges is what makes Sussex County a very special community.”   The Little Sprouts Early Learning Center is operated by Project Self-Sufficiency, a local non-profit agency which offers a wide variety of services to families in northwestern New Jersey.   The daycare and preschool facility features separate classrooms for each age group, from infants through those ente...

Information sessions regarding the Campus to Campus initiative offered by Project Self-Sufficiency in conjunction with Sussex County Community College are currently underway.   Free child care, basic skills testing, counseling, campus tours, test anxiety support, access to financial aid and scholarships, and other services are available through the program.   Interested adults are invited to attend Information Sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 16 th and 18 th , 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., or January 4 th , 30 th and February 1 st , 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.     The Campus to Campus program is designed to help potential students overcome the challenges that are preventing them from taking the next steps towards college and a career; young adults who have never enrolled or older adults who did not attend college are invited to attend.   If assessment testing has been an obstacle, the College Board Accuplacer exam, a suite of tests which accurately ass...
