Project Self-Sufficiency will Host Virtual Career Fair

Free Virtual Career Fair hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency

Local businesses and organizations are gearing up to recruit new staff members at Project Self-Sufficiency’s first ever, Virtual Career Fair on Wednesday, October 21^st at 10:00 a.m. Representatives from local businesses, organizations and educational institutions will be featured individually and given the opportunity to promote job openings and scholastic opportunities. Information packets with links to online job applications, company profiles, and contact information will be made available to all attendees following the event. The Career Fair is free and open to the public; advance registration is required and currently available on the Project Self-Sufficiency website, https://www.projectselfsufficiency.org/virtual-career-fair. Log-on links and additional information will be sent to attendees shortly before the start of the event.

“We are excited to be offering our first Virtual Career Fair and we encourage anyone who is interested in advancing their career to attend,” commented Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon. “Job seekers can get immediate feedback on their resume and interview skills in addition to learning about job openings and options for furthering their education.”

Employers and educational institutions who will be promoting opportunities include NJ Superior Courts-Morris/Sussex Vicinage; Primerica Financial Services; Project Self-Sufficiency; SCARC; Inc.; Selective Insurance; Shop Rite; The Rose House; TransOptions; United Methodist Communities-Bristol Glen; Home Depot/Newton; and others.

Project Self-Sufficiency has assisted low-income families residing in northwestern New Jersey for more than 30 years. The agency’s mission is to provide a broad spectrum of holistic, respectful, and comprehensive services enabling low-income single parents, teen parents, two-parent families, and displaced homemakers to improve their lives and the lives of their children through the achievement of personal and economic self-sufficiency and family stability. Since 1986 Project Self-Sufficiency has served more than 28,000 families.

High School Diploma Program Launches in March

Enrollment for the next session of the New Jersey Youth Corps program at Project Self-Sufficiency is underway. The sixteen-week program launches in March and is currently being offered as a hybrid of virtual and in-person curricula and activities. The New Jersey Youth Corps gives those who have not completed high school the opportunity to boost their literacy skills, prepare for the high school equivalency exam, obtain on-the-job work experience, and transition into a career, college or the military. Virtual Community Health Fair to be Hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency

A free Community Health Fair will be hosted virtually by Project Self-Sufficiency on Thursday, May 13 th , at 4:00 p.m. The event will feature a keynote presentation by Sussex County Public Health Epidemiologist Dr. Lama Chaddad as well as a discussion of summer safety tips by Project Self-Sufficiency’s Nurse Family Partnership team of nurses and a presentation about the prevention of child sexual assault and the Ages & Stages child development questionnaire. Representatives from local health organizations will review current resources for the health and well-being of children and families. Volunteers and Paid Instructors Needed for High School Equivalency Program

Paid instructors and volunteers are needed to work with young adults in the New Jersey Youth Corps high school equivalency and employment skills training program at Project Self-Sufficiency. Program coordinators are searching for help with tutoring in science, math, social studies, and English as well as assistance with community service projects. Tutors will also assist with basic reading comprehension and vocabulary. Opportunities are available Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; a part-time, flexible schedule is offered. "The situation is ideal for college students or educators who might be taking a break from their regular schedule due to the pandemic,” notes Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon.
