Football players and coaches from area high schools recently stopped by Project Self-Sufficiency to help set up the Season of Hope Toy Shop to benefit low-income children in Sussex and Warren counties. The players and coaches hauled boxes, set up displays, packed resource bags, and even delivered a generous monetary donation. The teams represented the Super Football Conference, an organization of 113 schools in northern New Jersey which is dedicated to developing student athletes on a conference, state, and national level.
“Project Self-Sufficiency is delighted to welcome assistance from volunteers of all ages as we set up the Season of Hope Toy Shop for children in need,” commented Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon. “These young men worked hard and exemplified the spirit of giving that is so crucial to the success of this endeavor year after year. Thousands of families will be helped by their efforts.”
John Fraraccio, Memorial High School Director of Athletics and chairman of The SFC Steering Committee, noted that community service is important to the organization. “The SFC provides schedules and brings schools together in a league, but it’s great for the kids to be involved in their community and understand that our focus is more than just football and sports. We’re proud that our athletes are becoming more community minded.”
The Season of Hope Toy Drive is coordinated by Project Self-Sufficiency to benefit thousands of children in Sussex and Northern Morris and Warren counties. Toys, gift cards and monetary donations will be gratefully received at Project Self-Sufficiency, 127 Mill Street in Newton, Monday – Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. To donate online, or for more information, visit www.projectselfsufficiency.org or call 973-940-3500.
